Hope
is material:
glass and plastic syphoning
salt and secrets into
withered veins;
flesh and fur huddled
by the heater vent
awaiting warmth;
the bare limb of a tree
stooping over fallen leaves,
not grieving: anticipating
the reincarnation of light derived
anew from the womb of night.
